International Jazz in the Ruins Festival 2026
The festival’s history dates back to 2004, although the idea itself was born much earlier. For the first fifteen editions, Jazz in the Ruins took place in the legendary Victoria Theatre Ruins, before moving in 2019 to the remarkable 150-year-old GZUT Model Hall — a venue with exceptional history and a unique industrial atmosphere.
From the very beginning, the festival has been built around the idea of presenting new phenomena in jazz and improvised music. Over the years, dozens of artists from all over the world have performed here — from young emerging creators to acclaimed stars of the European jazz and alternative scene. Jazz in the Ruins has also become known as a stylistically open event, featuring not only jazz, but also electronics, world music, nu jazz, avant-garde, groove, ambient, and experimental music.
At the same time, the festival has long been developing activities related to visual arts and graphic design, collaborating with young poster and illustration artists from around the world. It is precisely this combination of music, visuals, and industrial architecture that has created the atmosphere now recognized as the hallmark of Jazz in the Ruins.
The year 2026 brings the biggest organizational and program changes in the festival’s history. For the first time, Jazz in the Ruins will take place over three weekends in August, significantly expanding the scale of the event and presenting the most extensive lineup in its history.
The first two festival weekends will traditionally take place in the industrial space of the GZUT Model Hall — the venue that has served as the festival’s new home since 2019. The third weekend, however, will move Jazz in the Ruins to Katowice for the very first time, to the extraordinary space of Fabryka Montana, located opposite the Fabryka Porcelany at 25 Porcelanowa Street. In doing so, the festival opens a new chapter in its history while further emphasizing its post-industrial identity.
Another new feature is the expanded concert format. Every festival Friday, audiences will experience three musical events, with the first concert beginning as early as 6:00 PM. Saturdays, meanwhile, will take on a more club-oriented and evening atmosphere: each day will feature two main concerts, with the first starting at 7:00 PM, followed by late-night After Party sessions with DJs, electronics, and improvised energy continuing into the night.
Jazz in the Ruins 2026 is more than just concerts. It is a multidimensional experience — a meeting point of music, architecture, art, graphic design, light, and people who want to experience culture intensely, modernly, and without stylistic limitations.
This year’s lineup reflects the scale and international character of the event — from contemporary European jazz, world music, electronics, jazz-funk, and nu jazz, to projects that completely defy stylistic categories, while also showcasing many young and exceptionally talented artists presenting their new albums.
