Bartek Pieszka Quartet (Poland)
The band was established at the beginning of 2007 and during the first two years of their existence they won 2nd prizes at three different festivals (Krokus Jazz Festival 2007, Jazz Juniors Festival 2007 in Cracow and DoDж The International Jazz Festival 2009 in Kiev). Their music can be described as modern European jazz rooted in classical music and inspired by Polish, Argentinian and Scandinavian ethnic sound. Since the very beginning they have performed live a lot and they have been positively reviewed everywhere – both by critics and the audience. Their first album, Slow Motion was released at the end of 2013 and it consists of Bartek Pieszka's own compositions as well as rearranged jazz standards.
Bartek Pieszka – vibraphonist and jazz composer; a graduate of Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, a winner and a laureate of various music festivals both individually and with his band. Since 2010 he has regularly reached high positions in JazzTop poll organised by Jazz Forum magazine. He has also been appreciated – both as a composer and a musician – by great authorities of Polish music: composer Wojciech Kilar and conductor Adam Sztaba.
Nikola Kołodziejczyk – pianist, composer and conductor; the youngest lecturer at Academy of Music in Katowice, a scholar of Berklee College of Music, a winner and a laureate of many festivals, including Montreux Jazz Festival 2007. His compositions blur the borders between jazz and classical music. He constantly searches for new solutions and composes them into one harmonic entity, which makes his music so desirable.
Maciej Szczyciński – bass guitarist and double bass player; a graduate of Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, playing both in orchestras and various jazz projects (with Jacek Namysłowski, Zbigniew Namysłowski, Marcin Olak and many others). He has performed with many well-knonw Polish musicians, such as Michał Urbaniak, Andrzej Jagodziński or Urszula Dudziak.
Sebastian Kuchczyński – drummer; a graduate of Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, a scholar of University of Louisville, Kentucky, USA and the winner of Tarnów Jazz Contest 2008. He cooperates with various music bands: Piotr Wojtasik Quintet, Maciej Sikała Trio, Grzegorz Nagórski Quartet, Wierba & Schmidt Quintet and Piotr Schmidt Electric Group.
