Lorenzo De Finti Quartet
Mysterium Lunae (Losen Records)
During the pandemic, much music focused on isolation and negativity, but the album "Mysterium Lunae" by Lorenzo De Finti Quartet offers a different perspective. This third studio album by the band, released on May 10, 2023, captures moments of beauty and clarity in difficult times.
The album's title comes from an ancient theological metaphor, which, according to De Finti, expresses how "a cold, dry, and barren object can mysteriously become a source of poignant beauty by reflecting a greater light." De Finti's compositions are emotionally uplifting, offering listeners healing and peace.
The album seamlessly transitions between delicate arrangements and long improvisations, offering incredible dynamics. Intimate piano moments are juxtaposed with bursts of energy and virtuosic solos, where every decision serves the music. The style of "Mysterium Lunae" is hard to categorize. From bassist Stefano Dall’Ora's bluesy solos, through drummer Marco Castiglioni's rock rhythms, to trumpeter Alberto Mandarini's classical, cinematic sound – the listener is taken on a surprising journey through feelings and textures.
Interactive musicianship, extended piano techniques, string section overlays, and innovative production techniques give the quartet a modern sound. The quartet celebrated the album's release with a European tour, visiting countries such as the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Estonia, Italy, Switzerland, and Canada.

Gniewomir Tomczyk Perpetus ft. Jan Smoczyński & Stanisław Słowiński
"Perpetus" – meaning "eternal" – is a new project by Gniewomir Tomczyk, a distinguished young drummer, created together with outstanding Polish jazz artists. "Perpetus" is a 5-part suite inspired by five paintings by Polish painter Józef Tomczyk.
The titles of the canvases, and thus the compositions, are respectively: "Initium" (beginning), "Fons" (source), "Intra" (inside), "Vestigum" (trace), and the finale "Alio" (somewhere, elsewhere). The project debuted in 2022 at the Jazzmine music club in Warsaw during the Jazz Po Polsku - Live Sessions for China & Korea series, and is currently recording its first album "Perpetus."
The expanded jazz lineup with string instruments and electronics significantly broadens the band's sound, influencing its diversity in terms of timbre, color, message, and forms of expression.
