Workshops are addressed to young jazz musicians, pupils of music schools, adults interested in jazz improvisation and cooperation in a jazz band. Applications may be submitted by individuals and band (trios, quartets).

On the 11th of August (Saturday) at 6:00 p.m. workshop participants will present the effects of the course during a short performance on the main stage of the festival, at the Victoria Theatre Ruins.

Co-ordinator of the workshops: Jarosław Spałek

A graduate of the Jazz Institute of the Music Academy in Katowice, a pedagogue and a trumpet player, a session musician having a portfolio with almost 80 recordings of jazz and pop music. He has been cooperating with the best Polish jazz orchestras and big band, like Kukla Band, Alex Band and more. A trumpeter in Jerzy Milian and Tarkowski Orchestras. He has recorded a CD with Enerjazzer, the group from Gliwice playing traditional jazz. An educator at the Music School in Gliwice, where he leads a jazz band of the young schools pupils, the band well known in Gliwice and in the surrounding region.

Lecturer  Marcin Kaletka

born in 1986, tenor saxophonist – a graduate of the Institute of Jazz Academy of Music in Katowice and the Frost School of Music, University of Miami, USA. Winner of several awards at festivals and jazz competitions in the country and abroad. He has also recorded three albums with the Wierba & Schmidt Quintet: „Maya” (2009), „Live in Getxo” (2010), „Black Monolith” (2011) and the album with vocalist Wojciech Myrczek „We’ll Be Together Again” (2010).

The workshops will take place in the Music School in Gliwice (Siemińskiego St. no 6).

The workshops are open both for jazz fans/listeners and musicians. Those who want to take active part (fully participate) in our workshops should send an e-mail at sjc@sjc.pl oraz jazzwruinach@jazzwruinach.pl and write name, surname, instrument.
