Wierba & Schmidt Quintet belongs to the leading bands of the youngest generation of Polish jazz musicians. Their first album was released in October 2009 by Jazz Forum magazine. One month later the band played a concert in Agnieszka Osiecka Music Studio of Polish Radio. The concert was transmitted by the Third Programme of Polish Radio and got excellent reviews. In July 2010, a few days before their appearance in Gliwice, the band took part in the 34th Getxo Jazz Festival in Spain. They were one of the four finalists, together with bands from Finland, Italy and Spain, and won the first prize and the audience award. That`s the second time a Polish band has been awarded during Getxo Jazz Festival (the first prize-winner was Simple Acoustic Trio). The band`s co-leader Piotr Schmidt was also awarded a prize for the best soloist of the contest.
